Our Dad passed away at 5:32 am, December 7th, 2005. He died very peacefully in his sleep with his son Eric, daughter Laura and son-in-law Tom at his side. His best friend Richard reminded me of something that he would tell us, or anybody else, if ever asked a question about his love of life or fear of death. "I'm not afraid to die. I've lived a good, long life and had a lots of fun and great times along the way. If I had it to do over, I wouldn't change a thing." And he would always add, "If I died tomorrow I would have no regrets." How many of us can say that? To all of the people who came and celebrated the life of Mr. Ed at Southern Junction. From the sometimes acquaintance, to the Democratic Caucus (you know who you are), to his best friends in the whole world and his extended family, I thank you all. Paul thank you for opening your doors (and bar!) and welcoming us so graciously. Mr. Ed got his final wish and had one final farewell to his home away from home. I loved hearing the great stories, the kind words and meeting strangers who told me so much more about my father ( all good I might add! ). You all made it a very special occasion. Ed, Dad was buried at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery on Tuesday, December the 13th. He is located in Section 14F plot 163 directly down the hill from the main flag pole. He had a wonderful service. I have never been as proud of my Dad as I was that day. If you came to the service, I know you could tell that I was beaming with pride. I was lucky enough to find a great Navy Chaplain for the service, and I think that he was truly impressed with Dad's service to our country. He did a great job describing our father. Chaplain Bond and the all Navy Honor Guard were the perfect salute to his service in the Navy and to his long, storied career in the defense industry. He was a true patriot and deserves a place in that field of honor. We will probably never know all of the contributions that he made to the defense of our country as most of the projects he worked on in the defense industry were Top Secret or highly classified. We are all very, very proud of our father. Mr. Ed's grandson Harvey Bautista is currently serving in the United States Army, stationed in Germany for now. He is due back in Iraq in a few months. Come back safely Harvey! To make an e-mail tribute to Ed or share a memory or two, please write to tribute@edmanning.com. Dad's full length obituary. Use this link to make donations to the M. D.
